Tarapoto celebrates its 242nd anniversary with cultural activities

The 'City of Palms' was founded on August 20, 1782, by the Spanish bishop Baltazar Jaime Martínez de Compagnon y Bujanda. This year, to celebrate its 282nd anniversary, various artistic and cultural activities will be offered, extending until Tuesday, August 20.

The festivities began on Friday, August 9, with a community civil marriage, followed by the traditional beauty contest "Miss Tarapoto" on Saturday, August 10.

From Sunday, August 11, to Monday, August 19, there will be activities related to the Cultural and Sports Festival Alcanfest 2024, the "Arte Emprende Tarapoto 2024" fair at the Municipal Garage, and the cultural night "Tarapoto Celebrates" at the city's Main Square.

Other activities will include the XXXI National Folkloric Dance Competition, the Tarapoto Big Day 2024, and bird watching in the Cordillera Escalera ecotourism corridor.

The main day of activities (August 20) will begin with a mass at the Matriz Church at 7:00 a.m. Then, the National Flag will be raised, accompanied by a civic parade, followed by a solemn session at noon. Finally, the celebrations will close with a float parade at the Main Square.
