Piura seeks to establish itself as a tourist destination with new recreational spaces

Piura’s local government wants the city to be more than just a stop on the way to the beach. To make this happen, it is creating new parks and public spaces. Mayor Gabriel Madrid Orue said his team is working to improve parks and modernize the city.

Some key projects include fixing Néstor Martos Park, rebuilding downtown Piura, improving Los Ejidos Park, and upgrading the park in Urbanización Piura. According to Madrid, the city lacks a clear tourism plan. Because of this, these projects aim to bring visitors and boost the local economy.

Every year, the city spends over 20 million soles on parks and gardens. Now, the mayor promises to use this money better to help the community and attract tourists. He also explained that the water in Néstor Martos Park does not come from the public supply. Instead, it is part of a recycling system that allows it to be reused for four years.

Néstor Martos Park will open on February 15. A special event for children is planned for the day before. The mayor also invited local artists to use the park for culture and art. With this, he confirmed his commitment to tourism and the growth of Piura.
