Promperú, the country’s tourism board, shared the news and highlighted the criteria for the list. Experts at The New York Times selected destinations based on their food, culture, natural beauty, and adventure opportunities.
The newspaper emphasized Ollantaytambo’s rich history. Visitors can explore the impressive ruins where the Incas fought Spanish conquerors. Its cobblestone streets are lined with cozy cafés, colorful souvenir shops, and restaurants serving dishes inspired by local ingredients and flavors. Hiking trails around the city also offer breathtaking views.
Other destinations on the list include Spain, Hampshire in England, Thailand, Nepal, the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, Angola, and Nicaragua.
