These numbers were shared during the Virtual Talk on Tourism Potential in the Andean Community. The event, organized by the CAN General Secretariat, aimed to boost tourism in the region.

Tourism, a chance for growth

Gonzalo Gutiérrez, Secretary General of CAN, highlighted the great opportunity to attract more tourists to the region. He stressed that it’s not only about promoting well-known destinations but also about showcasing lesser-known places with rich cultural, historical, and gastronomic diversity.

"We can attract more tourists if we show the incredible wealth in these less explored places," said Gutiérrez.

A call to action for Andean countries

Gutiérrez also stressed the need for a diverse tourism offer that adapts to new market trends. He pointed out that, in 2022, the Andean Community captured only 1% of global travelers. For this reason, he called on CAN countries to work together to increase interest from international visitors.

Tourism between Andean countries is key

Tourism between Andean countries is also important. Out of every 10 tourists who visit an Andean country, 4 come from another nation within the region.

Gutiérrez reminded citizens that they can travel through CAN countries without a passport or visa. This policy makes travel easier and encourages tourism within the region, helping to boost local economies.
