Recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the Virgen de la Candelaria festival in Puno is expanding internationally, reaching Spanish soil in 2025.

The Virgen de la Candelaria Festival is Promoted in Spain

A delegation from the Municipality of Puno was welcomed in the city of Tenerife, where they offered a tribute in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria. 

Through traditional dance performances and the exchange of representative costumes, the event aims to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and cultural cooperation between the authorities of both countries.

Councilman Salvador Hancco attended the event on behalf of the mayor of Puno and took the opportunity to thank the local mayor, Mari Brito, for the warm reception. He also emphasized the importance of the ties between the two countries and extended an invitation for them to visit his region during the Virgen de la Candelaria celebrations. 

Mayor Brito expressed her gratitude for the act of twinning and the cultural exchange they experienced. She also highlighted the influential role of the Virgen de la Candelaria as a link between both cultures.
