María del Sol Velásquez, Director of Tourism Promotion at Promperú, stated that with the addition of Panama, the Dominican Republic, Bolivia, and Costa Rica, the total number of prioritized markets in their strategy to boost tourism now stands at 19.
These markets are crucial due to their air connectivity with our country, which is key to reaching the projected number of foreign tourists.
"Organically, tourists are already arriving without much promotion in these destinations. Additionally, we are targeting destinations that not only have strong tourist flows but also generate significant foreign currency," she indicated.
She also mentioned that Peru is seeking quality tourists who are conscious of preserving the tourism destination.
The official pointed out the lack of infrastructure as one of the challenges facing Peruvian tourism, urging regional authorities to commit to improving it: "We need roads, hotel infrastructure, restaurants, services, among others. The necessary actions are being taken through the Vice Ministry of Tourism," she concluded.
