Elizabeth Galdo, Minister of Mincetur, held a meeting with representatives from the sector's unions to share the progress made in the first half of the year and discuss the planned actions for the rest of 2024 and into 2025.
The minister emphasized the importance of connectivity for the recovery of Peruvian tourism. "We will continue coordinating with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to boost this connectivity and engage with airlines, as reactivating these routes also depends on them."
She also noted that the resumption of commercial flights to the city of Anta has positively impacted the influx of tourists to the Áncash region. As a result, regional authorities are reaching an agreement to implement the Huaraz-Cusco connection.
In the same vein, two additional routes are being proposed: Tacna-Arequipa and Tacna-Cusco, to recover border tourism from Chile.
Regarding the Amazonas region, the official stated that the Jaén airport will serve as a temporary solution while the Chachapoyas airport is under review. "Amazonas is among the most active in recovering tourism figures, which shows that connectivity is crucial, but so is the promotion work that can be developed," she said, also highlighting the recovery of tourism activity in Puno and Apurímac.
