The Ministry of Tourism (Mincetur) and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) signed an agreement to improve the Cusco-Machu Picchu-Choquequirao tourist route.
Cusco’s governor, Werner Salcedo, said this plan will boost sustainable tourism and help local communities. He also stressed the need to improve Choquequirao, which has access and infrastructure problems.
"Our goal is to give value to Choquequirao while respecting everyone, especially our Pachamama," Salcedo said.
The signing event included Tourism Vice Minister Madeleine Burns and CAF representative Santiago Rojas. Mayors from Santa Teresa, Anta, and Mollepata also attended, along with other local leaders. They all agreed on the importance of working together to develop tourism in the region.
