The PRIAK is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the most important archaeological complexes in Amazonas. Led by archaeologist José Bastante, the project actively works on the site's research and conservation, focusing on maintaining its integrity and stability.
The Archaeological and Interdisciplinary Research Program of the Monumental Archaeological Zone of Kuélap (PRIAK) is fully dedicated to the archaeological complex located in Amazonas, focusing on its research, conservation, and enhancement.
According to archaeologist and project director José Bastante, the current project is set to conclude on August 12, 2024. Therefore, a new program is being developed to continue the work.
In an interview with Agencia Andina, he outlined the next steps: "We are now in the final phase of conservation work in seven critical areas. The new PRIAK will include everything that could not be achieved this year and will have a five-year horizon. New areas for research and conservation will be included."
He also expressed the institutions' desire to maintain their support for PRIAK, with agreements from regional governments, universities, municipalities, and others. All are committed to the recovery of the archaeological site.
The program will add new excavation units and address areas that are not in critical condition but still require attention. This will help maintain various structures and provide greater stability to the area.
