The addition of a nighttime visiting schedule was confirmed by Maras Sal, a company managed by local community members. This will begin on September 27, in celebration of World Tourism Day.
Edwin Pizarro, president of Maras Sal, gave statements to the Andina news outlet, where he mentioned that this project highlights the safety measures in the area, from the access roads and pathways to the lighting, along with ample parking space.
According to current figures, during peak season, up to 1,500 tourists can visit per day. However, with these new implementations, the goal is to improve the tourism service and reach even more people.
Additionally, the Kachi Raymi, an Inca ceremony that celebrates the ancient extraction and processing of salt, is held in the area. This cultural expression includes history and chronicles dating back to the colonial era and also promotes the revival of tourism and the economy for the 663 families that protect this natural attraction.
