The Choquequirao cable car will be awarded in 2025

On July 28, during the Message to the Nation, President Dina Boluarte announced that the construction of a cable car in the 'lost city of the Incas' aims to boost its tourism offering and attract more visitors.

"In 2024, we will launch the call for proposals for the Choquequirao Public-Private Partnership, advancing this important process that will drive a significant influx of tourists to this new Peruvian wonder," stated the president.

You will find the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex at the top of the hill of the same name, precisely at 3104 meters above sea level. Reaching this tourist destination can be challenging, as it requires a long hike of 1 to 4 days in the absence of a road route.

The implementation of the cable car will involve an investment of USD 200 million and provide an alternative access route for visitors. According to Proinversión, this enhancement project will be the largest PPP in the tourism sector.

"This major investment will create conditions for over a million tourists to visit the Archaeological Park annually, a considerable jump from the current 8,000 visitors per year. The demand from new visitors will boost tourism and related activities in the southern region of the country," she added.

The cable car will increase demand for accommodations, restaurants, and tourist services, which will have a stimulating effect on the number of job positions in the Cusco and Apurímac regions.
