The head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), Desilú León, confirmed that the upcoming international forum will have a positive impact on tourism. It is expected to bring around 15,000 visitors to the country, which will support many local businesses.
In an interview with TvPerú, León explained that the arrival of tourists creates a direct opportunity for local food and crafts, giving Peruvian artisans a chance to share their products with the world.
She also highlighted important numbers for tourism. Before the pandemic, Peru received 4.4 million visitors each year, and it’s projected that 2024 will close with 3.5 million tourists. “Next year, that number will be easily surpassed by the first half of 2025, which will bring direct economic benefits,” León predicted.
In addition, she noted that the openings of the new Jorge Chávez Airport and the mega-port of Chancay could help Peru reach record numbers in tourism by 2025. This will improve connectivity and attract more visitors to the country.
Finally, León highlighted the government’s efforts to support community tourism and local entrepreneurs. She reminded that tourism represents 2.9% of Peru’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates 1.3 million jobs, making it a key sector for the national economy.
