After the strong public reception during the APEC Forum's Food Security Week, the Regional Directorate of Culture (La Libertad) will launch a project to become the first city with night tourism in the regions.

David Calderón, head of the DDC La Libertad, spoke to Agencia Andina about the initiative: "If we can illuminate these huacas, Trujillo will become an attractive point for tourists to visit not just during the day but also at night. With this, we could promote innovative night tourism and attract more visitors."

A large part of the project draws inspiration from the success of "Trujillo es Cultura" and "APEC Ciudadanos," where both foreign and national visitors to the forum enjoyed evening activities and performances. “Since Monday, August 12, we’ve seen a strong influx of visitors, with over 1,000 people attending the opening ceremony. Then, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we held a series of presentations starting at 7 p.m., with 300 to 400 people attending each night,” he noted.

It’s important to highlight that the initiative’s main attractions will include the opening of the Chan Chan Site Museum and the illumination of the following huacas: Toledo, Arco Iris, Takaynamo, and La Esmeralda. These efforts aim to draw more tourists to Trujillo and increase awareness of the region’s culture.

"The tourists who come should become ambassadors, spreading the word that night tourism is possible in Trujillo, so they can learn about our rich identity. It is our responsibility to value and showcase it," he concluded.
